Trades House

Associated Organisations

The Trades House of Glasgow has 14 Incorporated Trades or Crafts which make up the Trustees of the Trades House.   We also have 3 other organisations with very close links, who along with the 14 Incorporations make up the annual Chain Gang, i.e. people who fund raise for the Trades House and wear chains of office to official dinners etc.

It may be of interest to those not involved in the Trades House to learn that the Head of an Incorporation is called a Deacon or in the case of the Maltmen, the Visitor.   The other Incorporation office bearer of note is the Collector who traditionally Collected and looked after the funds and also collected new members.

The head of the Trades House is the Deacon Convenor and he or she is the 3rd citizen of Glasgow after the Lord Provost and the Dean of Guild.   The Deacon Convenor is supported by the Collector of the House.

The close linked organisations are:
     Grand Antiquity Society
     Association of Deacons
     Trades House Lodge

The other organisations are:
Society of Deacons and Free Preses
     Weavers Society of Anderson
     Govan Weavers Society
     Tailors of Rutherglen
     North Parish Washing Green Society

For information about any of the associated organisations, please hover over the [Associated Organisation] button above and select the organisation of interest.
